I saw Breaking Benjamin live yesterday, for the first time, after waiting five years. We got into town six hours before doors opened, ha. Needless to say, we were first in line, and front row. Not only was it their first show back, but it was my first show ever with my best friend Kaitlin, and this venue was the place that they got signed to their first record label. Ben’s looking so happy and healthy nowadays, and all of the band has done so much to get here. I’m so proud of all of them, and I’m happy to be part of this important moment in their career.
Me and my two friends that I went with met all of the band. They’re all seriously the nicest guys in the world. They hung out in this little bar adjacent to the venue, and almost nobody knew that they were there, so we all casually hung out for an hour and a half and all just talked. It was so cool.
The first picture with Ben is a particularly funny story, to me. I was the only person paying attention to the door at the other end of the building, when Ben walked in, so I waved at him. He waved back, and ended up coming over because of that, and taking pictures with a bunch of people. So basically I rule. Also, while trying to come over to greet us, he got stuck between the door and a car for about 30 seconds, bless his heart.
He casually said hi to everyone, but when he saw Kaitlin (she’s already met him and been to many shows), he got super excited and said, “Oh hey, you!!” and hugged her. And it was adorable. Also LOOK HOW CUTE THEIR SELFIE TOGETHER IS:
The second picture is with Shaun, their drummer. He’s sooo cute and just the sweetest. It was kind of funny; I couldn’t see him much during the set, because Ben’s tall and was right in front of me (a blessing and a curse). But Shaun was just all smiles and excitement during the entire set. Whenever Ben moved, we looked at him and waved and stuff, and he got an even bigger cheesy grin, and it was adorable. He’s so friendly, and we got hugs from him. It was lovely. I can’t wait to see him again.
The third picture is with Aaron, their bassist. Kaitlin (the girl on the left with the straight hair) has known him forever and is like a big brother to her, so I’ve been waiting for years to finally meet him. (When I introduced myself, he got an “Ah-ha!” expression because she had mentioned me before, and that was pretty cool.) At various points during the show, he just stared out at the crowd, in awe of being a part of this show, and it was just so humbling even to see that. He’s the sweetest person in the world and I’m so proud of him.
The fourth picture is with Jasen, their guitarist. He was the biggest chatterbox of them all, in a good way; we talked with him the longest, I think. The funniest conversation with him was going off on a tangent with a lengthy talk about spiders. It was so funny. Definitely the most interesting guy to chat with.
The fifth picture is with Keith, their other guitarist. This is also by far one of my favorite photos of the night. He was the first member of the band that we talked to after the show, and I was nervous, so I don’t remember half of what we said, which is embarrassing. Nonetheless, he’s an absolute sweetheart, and is incredibly cute. I’ll have to have a longer conversation next time, ha.
The setlist was also beyond incredible. They played my favorite song in the world, Give Me A Sign, that I’ve been waiting five years to hear live, and I sobbed so much. I also never thought So Cold could make me sob, but since it was the first song they played, oh, it definitely did. I couldn’t even sing through most of it, because I was sobbing so much, from being so in awe of this really happening. (That intro is godly live, by the way.) They played songs that I never thought I’d hear live. Some noteworthy ones were Unknown Soldier, Evil Angel, Simple Design, Natural Life, and Home, among others. The entire setlist can be found here.
Needless to say, this was the best night ever. I didn’t know if I’d ever get this opportunity, let alone their first show back with my best friend in the world. All the new members are so happy to be in the band, and I’m so proud of them and could not be more happy with this new line-up. Benheads until the end.
